The Office of Undergraduate Education is committed to help students realize their full academic potential by providing robust academic services that strengthen students’ academic preparedness. With the support of a talented pool of peer educators, we offer individualized tutoring in more than 50 different subjects and group study sessions via Supplemental Instruction in some of the most traditionally challenging courses. In addition, we have a repository of study and review materials, and we also offer a variety of academic success and enrichment workshops and events.

Tutoring Services

Did you know? Tutoring isn’t just for those who find themselves challenged by a subject. It’s for everyone.

  • Excelling in Class? Tutoring can propel you further, deepen your understanding and provide a platform to explore subjects more intensely.
  • On the Fence? If you’re somewhere in the middle, tutoring can provide clarity, boost your confidence and solidify concepts that might seem slightly out of reach.
  • Finding a Course too Challenging? Remember, everyone encounters bumps along their academic journey. Tutoring offers personalized strategies to understand complex topics and ensures you’re not alone in this.

Our tutoring services are open to students registered in the following programs: ACCESS Collaborative, James L. Moore III Scholars Program, Morrill Scholars Program, URM Regional Campus Transitioners, Young Scholars Program, Springforward, and BuckeyesFirst.

Before starting the scheduling process

You can self-schedule a tutoring appointment at any time via OnCourse. Be aware that while we offer tutoring support in more than 50 different courses, you will only see available appointments for your currently enrolled courses with available tutoring. If you do not see any availability, we might not have a tutor for that course.

Please refer to the Tutee Memorandum of Agreement for participation policies and procedures.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students enrolled in selected courses. It is designed to organize and improve the ways students study for class by providing a collaborative atmosphere led by an SI Leader with mastery in the course subject. The SI Leader shadows course lectures to understand how students are currently receiving information, and tailors their sessions accordingly.

SI is a research-based active learning approach consistent with some of the best practices for academic success. Students who regularly attend SI sessions earn better grades, develop a greater understanding of the course material and learn more effective ways to study. Additionally, they develop relationships with peers and cultivate a network of support. SI session attendance is not mandatory, and students may begin attending at any point in the semester. Note: The greatest benefit is derived from regular attendance and active participation.

If an OUE Scholar is enrolled in an SI-offered course, they will be automatically enrolled in a Carmen group at the beginning of each semester.
